Brazil sets no single national ratio of first-aiders, but Regulatory Standard NR-7 requires every establishment to keep first-aid material in the care of a trained person, while NR-5 (CIPA) mandates initial member training of at least 20 hours including first-aid basics, scaled by risk grade and headcount.
Brazil's Lucas Law (Federal Law No. 13.722/2018) makes basic first-aid training mandatory for teachers and staff at daycares, basic-education schools and child-recreation establishments, with age-appropriate content and annual recycling.
Brazil has no federal Good Samaritan civil-liability shield for rescuers; instead, Article 135 of the Criminal Code (Decreto-Lei 2.848/1940) imposes a legal duty to rescue, punishing failure to render aid when able to do so without personal risk.
Nursing practice in Brazil is governed by COFEN and the regional COREN councils, whose normativity recommends that nursing professionals recertify in basic life support at least every 2 years, with complementary certification required in services applying medication protocols under BLS.
Long-Stay Institutions for the Elderly (ILPIs) in Brazil operate under ANVISA Resolution RDC No. 502/2021, whose operating standard requires care and incident-response protocols so staff can give first aid and CPR while medical help is summoned.
Brazil's Serviço de Acolhimento em Família Acolhedora, governed by the Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente (ECA) and national technical guidelines, has no national rule requiring a first-aid certificate, but first aid is a recurring training topic and several municipalities offer specific training to foster families.
Online CPR and first aid training is recognized in Brazil, with NR-1 allowing distance and blended delivery for many mandatory trainings while the hands-on first-aid component is usually delivered in person.
